Regular Membership

Qualifications
  • Regular Members are engaged in research in the area of clinical immunology or have contributed to or are engaged in the practice of clinical immunology;
  • Have an MD, DO, PhD or equivalent academic degree;
  • Have made scholarly contributions as defined by the Council;
  • Are active representatives of the international scientific community with a specialty or interest in a field related to clinical immunology.

Associate Membership

Qualifications
  • Associate Members are non-doctoral practitioners and researchers;
  • Hold a Bachelors, Masters, RN or equivalent degree with a demonstrated interest in clinical immunology.

Trainee Membership

Qualifications
  • Trainee Members are enrolled in academic programs awarding, and are candidates for, MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degree, with a demonstrated interest in clinical immunology;
  • Are participating in post-doctoral or clinical fellowship, or residency programs.

Annual Dues: Trainee Membership is complimentary for your first three years, and up to a maximum of seven years when training period extends and upon approval of the Membership Committee. The complimentary membership will be followed by three years of discounted membership at only $50 per year. After three years, they will transition to Regular Members.

Emeritus Membership

Qualifications
  • An Emeritus Member must have attained the required age of at least 65 years
  • and have been a Regular Member for fifteen years or more.

Annual Dues: Emeritus Membership is complimentary.

 

*Emeritus members shall retain all rights and privileges of active membership, including voting rights, except that Emeritus members may not hold office or serve on the Council.

Honorary Membership

Qualifications
  • Honorary Members have made an extraordinary contribution to the field of clinical immunology under circumstances deemed appropriate by the Council, regardless of their previous or current CIS membership status.
  • Are participating in post-doctoral or clinical fellowship, or residency programs.

Qualifications

A candidate for election as a Fellow shall be required to demonstrate proficiency in research or practice in the field of clinical immunology and continuing efforts to advance the field of immunology. These requirements shall be deemed met upon fulfillment of the following criteria:

  • Has been a Regular Member of the society for a period of three (3) continuous years and has shown demonstrated commitment to CIS;
  • Completes the application for designation as a Fellow. Application must be accompanied by a nomination letter from a current Fellow of CIS;
  • Prior or current certification by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology, or by a Subspecialty Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (or equivalent recognition), or their foreign equivalent;
  • Continued training and experience in the field of clinical and translational immunology, including: 1) regular attendance at the national or international meetings where the primary focus is immunology such as the Clinical Immunology Society, European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID), Primary Immune Deficiency Treatment Consortium
    (PIDTC), and Latin American Society for Immunodeficiencies (LASID). Regular attendance is defined as attending at least three (virtual or in-person) meetings in the last 5 years; 2) ongoing practice, research, or teaching in the field of immunology.
  • Proof of scholarly activities based on a body of work related to clinical or translational immunology that demonstrates expertise and contribution to the field;
  • In the case of non-clinician scientists, the candidate must have earned a doctoral or other advanced degree and fulfill at least two of the following criteria. The CIS Council can make exceptions for outstanding candidates.
    • A track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journal in the field of immunology or a related field or an allied discipline which evidences original research, sound clinical investigation or advances and important discussion of the work of others in such field or discipline; 
    • Evidence of an ongoing commitment to teaching the principles and practice of immunology to house staff, medical students or early career immunologists; 
    • Providing ongoing continuing education opportunities in the field of immunology to other health care providers through lectures, rounds, case presentations or the like.
      The CIS Council can make exceptions to these requirements for outstanding candidates. Individuals in this category should also complete an application form and submit a nomination
      letter from a current fellow.
